3,400

The Mars Federation was a shell company, a relic of the "old Mars."  In the 3390's the collective was favoring nearly any and all Mars projects.  SBG, the Stable Belt Group was the prime contractor in charge of security between smaller port system delivery contractors and the entire asteroid belt.  While largely viewed as a policing agent, it could not be argued that SBG had a rich history of successfully identifying Earth bound asteroids.  With deep system traffic increasing exponentially , the displacement of belt rock or rogue asteroids had tripled.  SBG was held in high regard by the citizen of Earth.  They had successfully marketed themselves as a shield of protection against displaced asteroids.  However, along the port systems, SBG was unpopular.  They were blamed for both wasting resources along with frequent abuse of  powers.  Despite the press, SBG was poised to capitalize heavily on the New Mars Agenda.

Manny Jeznk was the rightfull owner of the company known as the Mars Federation and was considered a man of well connections.  His wife's father was a wealthy partner in AOS, the heavy weight in artificial orbits, notably of Quet lineage.  If Manny could secure the funding, the Mars Federation could oppose the seemingly obvious prime contractor, SBG, for delivering materials and resources to Mars.

In 3420, SBG began a legal battle against the MF (Mars Federation).  It sited that MF had manufactured its financial history and therefore was illegally securing veins of bids from the collective.

Masdar CityDespite the legal battle, both companies had simply asserted themselves as the prime.  The result was a migration of citizens to various Mars cities in a very short time span.   It was to be known as The Great Migration.  Both SBG and the MF had measured their success based upon units for human ready delivery.  If SBG manufactured 1,000 livable units, MF would attempt to do the same, thereby indirectly reducing the quality of the unit itself.  The situation was growing unstable.  By 3450, SBG had shifted its response to a kind of Marketing that presented itself in a better light.  It spoke directly to the Mars citizen while simultaneously slinging mud at the MF.

Manny's response to SBG was, it seemed, in line with the original founders of the MF.  He would categorize the Federation as a governing body.  The citizen of the Federation had a voice and therefore, the citizenry was, in fact, the Federation itself.  It is easy now to look back and see a kind of destiny in action.  One might assume that it was written in the stars.  How could the MF not exist?  Was the creation of a false financial history an example of doing the wrong thing for the right reason.  How would SBG maintain control of the new life blood, the flow of money to Mars.  The Federation became a kind of state.  Martian issues were Federation issues.  The patriots of Mars had been born.
